DHgate is one of the less talked-about Chinese wholesale marketplaces, yet it’s been operating since 2004 – well before Temu or Shein entered the conversation. Here’s what UK shoppers actually need to know before placing an order.
DHgate is a marketplace, not a single shop. When you buy a phone case or a pair of trainers, you’re ordering from an individual Chinese merchant who lists on the platform. DHgate takes a commission; the seller ships from China.
That distinction matters. Product quality, shipping speed, and customer service can vary wildly from seller to seller. There’s no single standard: one seller might dispatch in two days, another might take three weeks. Reading seller ratings and feedback before buying isn’t optional; it’s essential.
DHGate UK Delivery
Expect two to four weeks as a realistic baseline. Some sellers offer faster options (DHL, FedEx) that can arrive in five to ten days, but these cost considerably more.
For standard free or low-cost shipping, the goods typically move via ePacket or a similar postal service, which is slow but usually reliable. Tracking is patchy: you may see no movement for a week, then suddenly your parcel is at customs.
One thing to budget for: import duties. Orders over £135 may attract UK import VAT. Not every seller declares accurate customs values, but this is increasingly scrutinised post-Brexit.
